We received photo and information about the I-pot modular system for creating flourishing terraced gardens indoors, designed by the creative team at Supercake, The vertical furniture system consists of lightweight and adjustable interlocking elements that can be set up separately or in groups to host large items like flower pots or tall books. I-pot also has several add-ons such as bags for plants, shelves, an aquarium for small fish, and lighting objects.

Adapting to the characteristics of each space, the I-pot modular system could be a great addition to a small room in need of a refreshing touch. We also believe it could do wonders on a terrace or in the balcony, helping you set up a miniature garden. How do you find this modular system in terms of design and functionality? For his Brecce collection, Italian designer Marco Stefanelli devised an ingenious way of removing fragments from sawmill scraps, tree branches, and cement fragments, and replacing them with perfectly sculpted resin embedded with LEDs. The game of Tetris has inspired many designers throughout the years. These Modular Tetris shelves are another practical influence of the hugely successful puzzle game.  From Brave Space design, the Tetrad Flat Shelving is a set of ten colored pieces in the popular shapes of the game. The shelves are made of wood, although their backings are entirely metallic. The blocks can be simply spread individually around your apartment, hung on a wall, or connected together to form a bookcase. You can arrange them in any way you like and use them for storing CD’s, books, magazines or any other objects that you have lying around your house . The finish is said to be stain resistant and easy to maintain. We found out that the set has a rather steamy price. You can get this ten blocks set at $ 1500 or an upgraded version for $2000, a sum that is not too high considering the creativity of the design and the endless possibilities in which you can use the Tetris blocks.  –via

The mini kitchen is quite an invention and will even let you enjoy keeping everything you need at your fingertips. The countertop is movable and slides pretty well to reveal the range, sink, storage, cupboards and even plenty of cabinets. Imagine, all this in just one kitchen unit. When you are not using it, the kitchen closes up, giving a minimalist, streamlined look and some much-needed organization to what is the most-used, most-chaotic room in the home.

Designed by British designer Ross Lovegrove for Yamagiwa, the Andromeda lamp is an artificial structure for capturing artificial light. The piece is moulded from a single material as a unified white botanical, aquatic organism to softly implant a sense of nature into the spaces we inhabit.

Here are a few words about Andromeda from the designer : “Emerging from the concept of Netification; the reduction of physical mass through selective perforation across a pre defined form; the concept floats more as a diatomic sea creature in the free ocean of space. It floats in a state of apparent anti gravity, capturing its light within to graphically delineate a structural net as a soft external shadow of itself. The light that is emitted from its LED clusters is reflected back into itself via mirrors orientated to maximise their output and to freely distribute a very pure light. It becomes the source of ambient light within a room, vesting gentle forms like large roots onto adjacent surfaces to form extended relationships onto and into architectural dimensions.”

Marcello Zuffo’s Movable Kitchen Design

Marcello Zuffo, a senior designer with Motorola’s Consumer Experience Design Group, entered the 2008 Electrolux/Interior Design Magazine competition for innovative kitchen design and took the Grand Prize with this design: an ultramodern kitchen with multiple movable components.  As required by the competition, Electrolux ICON appliances are incorporated throughout the space while the overall design can be shifted and manipulated to adapt to whatever task is required of the space.  The contemporary aesthetic allows for the user to be creative with what would otherwise be a boring, rectangular kitchen floor plan, and encourages an interesting degree of user interactivity between Zuffo’s design and your day-to-day preferences.  In fact, you might as well change up the space every few weeks just to try something different. - via
